Customer service

Post Office offers a well-staffed customer helpline for any inconveniences you encounter. The helpline is manned by technical advisors so they really know their stuff, the call centres are based in the UK and are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Post Office has a very accessible Help section on its website which is divided in Post office Broadband and Post Office HomePhone which makes life simpler when you’re searching for relevant information. The website features a comprehensive list of Frequently Asked Questions and straightforward information about the finer details of your contract.

Equipment

One of the perks of the Post Office packages is the high quality hardware that comes absolutely free with your contract. If you opt for the Broadband Standard package then you’ll receive a wired modem which allows just one computer to directly connect to the internet at a time.

However, if you upgrade to the Broadband Extra service then you’ll be provided with a more advanced wireless router. This sends out radio signals which are picked up be wireless enabled computers and consoles and saves having tangled wires all over the house.

Software features

Post Office provides you with free security software when you sign up to any one of its Broadband based contracts. If you opt for a Standard package your software will protect you from internet based viruses. It also comes equipped with anti-spam technology so you’ll be able to enjoy keeping in touch without being plagued by unwanted junk mail.

By choosing the Broadband Extra contract you’ll benefit from advanced protection and more comprehensive cover for your PC. This option also comes complete with parental control software so you can monitor and control your children’s use of the internet.

Email features

Post Office really has the family in mind with each of the packages that they offer. That’s why you’re provided with 5 free e-mail addresses when you subscribe, this way each family member can have their own account and retain their privacy.

Extras

There are plenty of exciting extras with Post Office, not least the 50MB of free web space. This will come in handy if you’re thinking of setting up your own dot com money spinner, or have a hobby you’d like to share on the World Wide Web.

In terms of landline benefits, Post Office will let you keep existing phone number which will make for any easy transition from your existing provider to Post Office. There’s also the ‘Loved Ones’ service which provides you with 60 minutes of free call time to chat to your friends and family on their birthdays and on Christmas Day.

And you frequently call international numbers you’ll be pleased to hear that Post Office charge just 5p per minute to over 20 destinations across the world.

  • I have just signed up with Post Office broadband and phone. I'm very pleased with the service so far. I had a few problems getting the wireless router to work due to our computer system, not any fault of Post Office.  Technical help given over the phone was easy to follow and step-by-step instructions resolved the problem immediately. I would recommend this company to anyone.

  • Absolute rubbish - you don't get what you want. I wanted phone and broadband only got broadband. I was passed from dept to dept and spent over 4 hours on the phone trying to cancel . Their lack of customer care and service makes other ISPs look brilliant. Minus 5 stars if possible!

  • I signed up my parents to Post Office HomePhone with Broadband Standard deal and the service and billing was faultless. My parents even managed to get the whole thing working on their own without needing me to drive home - a miracle in itself!

  • I've been on Post Office broadband for 5 weeks, the email's a bit up and down, otherwise it's ok. Easy to install.

    Email works better on Outlook Express.

  • I have been with Post Office broadband for five weeks. In this time I have been told you do not get anti-virus protection and email unless you upgrade from the standard package. This is contrary to what we were told when we signed up to Post Office broadband, we are now actively trying to cancel our contract. Be careful!

Company history

Post Office Ltd is part of the Royal Mail Group, along with Royal Mail and Parcelforce worldwide. Since the first post offices several centuries ago, Post Office has developed from a network of independently owned shops selling stamps and weighing packages to a national retail company who offer a broad range of services.
