BT seeks public sector help

BT is seeking the help of the public sector in implementing its new £1.5 billion fibre-optic broadband network.
The telecom firm is looking for the assistance of the London Development Agency in forming a partnership to help with the project which hopes to deliver broadband at speeds of up to 100mbps to millions of Brits by the year 2012.
Commenting on the need for the co-operation of the public sector in the implementation process for the new capital’s super-fast network, was the BT’s director for London, Emma Gilthorpe.
She said: "London is already a tremendous broadband success story and this is a great opportunity for the capital to be on the front page of the next chapter of that story.
"BT is keen to invest further in the city so it is important that London’s public sector works with us to ensure the funds are directed here."
Analysts including Goldman Sachs have suggested that BT’s move shows speed to be a vital factor in the UK broadband market.
