UK businesses unsatisfied with connection

A significant portion of UK businesses are unhappy with their broadband connection, new research has shown.
According to a study carried out by the Communications Management Association (CMA), four in ten businesses using broadband were unable to receive their required level of access due to geographical location.
Further figures showed that three-quarters of those firms quizzed think that the rollout of a fibre-optic network would be the change to the UK’s broadband infrastructure which would be most likely to improve the quality of service.
Commenting on the download speeds enjoyed by UK companies, Margaret Hopkins, principal analyst at Analysys Mason, told Computer Weekly: "The norm is 8mbps, but companies are rolling out 24mbps."
And on upload speeds: "People are also rolling out Ethernet over DSL and bonded pair technologies, so you can get up to 24mbps of Ethernet over Easynet [now acquired by Sky]."
The CMA’s members spend over £13 billion a year on communications and networks.
