Mobile broadband market sees price cuts
23rd July 2008
The UK mobile broadband market is set to be driven by the slashing of data prices in coming months, according to experts.
Speakers at the research firm Tariff Consultancy’s 3rd Mobile Pricing Symposium at Cambridge University were in agreement that price cuts in the UK’s mobile data services market will see increasing competition until the year 2012
Margrit Sessions, Tariff Consultancy’s managing director, pointed to figures which showed that prices in the UK mobile broadband market had dropped by 50 per cent.
"Price competition has become intense as the cost of devices has reduced and increased network capacity has become available with HSDPA speeds," she commented.
Continuing: "We believe that flat rate price competition will continue to be severe until mobile providers learn how to differentiate their product offer to meet the need of individual user groups."
Over a three year period from 2004 to 2007, mobile broadband pricing declined by more than half in real terms.
