‘Beware of mobile broadband speed promises’

Mobile broadband customers should beware of speed promises when they sign up to a deal, it has been suggested.
Rory Cellan-Jones of the BBC sounded a warning to Brits who are considering joining the thousands of new mobile broadband customers which sign up every month.
He highlighted the fact that Ofcom’s new code of conduct on broadband speeds does not apply to mobile broadband yet.
"As for the mobile product, it is now delivering the web on the move for millions of users - but take the speed promises with a pinch of salt," said Mr Cellan-Jones.
A recent report from industry watchdog Ofcom found that dongle sales reached 133,000 in June of this year.
In further advice, the expert indicated that it is sometimes wise to fork out more cash in order to ensure a reliable fixed line service.
"With fixed line broadband, it can be worth paying a bit more for good service - and you may even find you can get a faster line than you expect," he commented.
