GSMA in 3G embedding campaign

The GSM Association (GSMA) has launched a campaign to embed 3G mobile broadband technology in as many devices as possible.
Consumer electronics, clean energy, healthcare, transport and utilities have all been picked out by the GSMA as sectors which could benefit from increased connectivity.
The Embedded Mobile initiative, which is being led by KTF, Rogers Wireless, Smart, Softbank, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telstra and Vodafone, has a stated aim of upping the number of items which can exchange data over the web via mobile broadband.
"Our ultimate goal is that every machine, device, object will have broadband mobile connectivity," said Rob Conway, chief executive of the GSMA.
He went on: "Everything around us will be using mobile networks to exchange information with each other and with the internet."
Among the devices earmarked for 3G pre-installation are cameras, which could upload photos straight onto the web and cars which could send performance information to mechanics.
