24Mb Broadband explained

Looking to download songs in seconds and movies in minutes? Then 24Mb broadband is your best option. Offered in many urban areas by providers such as O2 and Be, 24Mb broadband makes waiting a thing of the past.

Admittedly, there are some non 24Mb packages in the above list, but since 24Mb broadband is only currently available in a limited number of locations – we thought you might want to see all your speedy options.

How does 24Mb broadband work?

If you have a BT landline you may be able to get Be 24Mb broadband. The way it works is that Be is gaining access to some of BTs exchanges, starting in urban areas and moving (over time) to more rural areas and using this access to offer “ludicrously fast broadband” to customers.

24Mb broadband is provided over a ADSL2 connection. ADSL2 is the cutting edge of broadband technology and offers up to 24Mb downloads.

Who is it for?

  • Gaming pros
  • Heavy downloaders
  • Peer-to-peer enthusiasts
  • Those wanting to run several heavy-usage devices from the same connection
  • IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) subscribers
  • VoD (Video on Demand) users

Essentially, 24Mb or ADSL2 broadband suits those wishing to use services that require increased bandwidth to stream live video without subjecting the customer to pauses while the program or film downloads over slow connections.

ADSL2 adds certain features to regular ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line) that boosts performance, improves data rate and reach performance. ADSL2 and ADSL2+ offer speeds of up to 24Mb download and 1Mb upload, depending on location.

Speed is dependent on location

  1. ADSL2 is only currently available in urban areas. Insert your postcode into our postcode checker to see if you can access this speedy connection.
