Broadband and free line rental explained

BT has long held the monopoly on home landline connections, nowadays however you can get your landline through a number of other companies including internet providers.

Some internet service providers (ISPs) don't even require you to have a landline in order to offer broadband. Virgin Media's packages, because they run on cable as opposed to copper phone wires, do not need a landline.
