Broadband bundles explained
Companies are expanding and diversifying; where once you might have gone through multiple companies for different services you may now find that one company can offer you multiple services. This guide will discuss packages and bundles and the relative advantages and pitfalls.
When it comes to broadband bundles, there is money to be saved and money to be lost. The key for you is to work out your needs and then match them, as far as possible, to those offered in the packages - and not the other way around. Having free evening calls, for example, is no use to you if you are never in on weekdays. Television packages obviously become more expensive depending on the amount of channels you wish to watch - try to avoid paying for channels that you won't watch.
It is often advisible to choose a lower package and upgrade if you need to - rather than go for the top-of-the-range bundle and later regret it. That being said, if you know that your family or flatmates or indeed, you yourself cannot live without all the channels- a lower package will only bring misery.
The most prominent companies offering TV, landline and broadband packages are:
- Sky - Reputed for their TV packages, Sky offers competitive bundles to new and existing users.
- Virgin Media - The sole ISP offering cable broadband, Virgin Media's broadband is it's key selling point.
- Tiscali - New to the scene, Tiscali are making a big splash by offering cheap bundles and with on-demand services for channels like BBC and Channel 4.
- BT - Known primarily for their home phone and broadband, BT have their sights set on upgrading their service the length and breadth of Britain as part of its 21CN radical vision.
The offers above vary on a number of different factors:
- Landline charges (included or not)
- Number of channels included
- Free calls included (at evenings and weekends or all the time?)
- Installation charges
- Set-up/activation costs
- Inclusion of hardware (wirelesss routers)
- Inclusion of sorfware (internet protection suites)
- Customer care (free? 24 hours? UK call centres?)
Many more companies offer broadband and landline deals:
- Madasafish - This award-winning broadband provider offers basic talk features at a low, low cost.
- Talk Talk - Known for their home phone excellence which gives free calls to other Talk Talk customers and free off-peak calls. Calls to some international locations are also discounted or free.
- Orange - Don't be put off by the 18 month contracts associated with Orange packages their bundles are well worth a look.
- AOL - The broadband experts, this is essentially a wireless broadband package with free calls - the speeds and download allowance are pretty competitive though.
- Pipex - If you are looking for cheap, cheap, cheap broadband and home phone packages - look no further.
The main advantage of bundles and deals is that they can save you money and hassle, as you’re dealing with just the one company instead of two or three.
